About matt
Matt is a proud, fourth-generation Texan who was born in Amarillo and raised in Pampa. Growing up in a small town profoundly shaped his fundamental values of faith, community, and education. Raised in a single-parent household, Matt was inspired by the dedication of his mother—a public school teacher who retired after three decades of classroom service.
Strong public schools helped Matt achieve success and a full scholarship to Texas Christian University (TCU). It was there that Matt met the love of his life and future wife—lifelong Colleyville resident and Colleyville Heritage alumna Katie Foust.
While Matt pursued his legal education at Baylor Law School, Katie supported their journey by serving as an elementary classroom teacher. After graduating, the Fousts bought their first home in Grapevine, and have made their home in GCISD for nearly 15 years.
After nearly a decade of inspiring young minds in the classroom, Katie pivoted to focus on their growing family and now owns and operates a small business, volunteers in GCISD, and served as PTA president of their home campus.
The Foust family are active members of White’s Chapel Methodist Church, where Katie served on both the preschool and church boards. The Foust boys (1st and 3rd grade) will be educated entirely in GCISD where they’re zoned to graduate from Grapevine High School.

Matt began his career as a litigator and trial attorney, defending individuals and small businesses throughout north Texas. Over the course of a decade, Matt tried dozens of cases to verdict, earning a reputation for his dedication and skill in the courtroom.
His legal career later evolved into a strategic role with a Fortune 100 subsidiary, honing the ability to focus on detail within the context of a broader, strategic landscape. Matt recognizes that comprehensive solutions to complex problems are the result of clear-eyed analysis and unwavering optimism.
community
Matt is deeply committed to serving his community. In an era where face to face connection is sometimes secondary to online interaction, Matt believes that bridge building and fellowship are indispensably important.
Matt has coached his sons’ baseball and basketball teams, led his school’s Dads’ Club, and served extensively in PTA leadership roles—including Legislative Chair. His advocacy for public education includes leading trips to Austin to advocate for GCISD. Matt took an active roll in the 2024 Bond election, serving on the Advisory Committee, traveling to multiple campuses to educate stakeholders about the Bond, and serving with a group of community members to gain support for its passage.
Matt’s commitment to community extends beyond education. He graduated from the Colleyville Citizens Police Academy, earning the “Top Shot” award. He competed in the Colleyville Rotary Club’s Dancing for the Stars fundraiser, where he took first place—proving that even lawyers can dance! As a proud Lions Club member, Matt raises his hand as often as possible to support others, to foster connections, and to build community.
Matt will lead as a GCISD Trustee with a dedication to faith, family, and service.
